I received an email from Better Homes and Gardens this week with a link to what it called “cheap and chic DIY headboard ideas.”
You know I love a great DIY project and so I clicked to get some inspiration. I found plenty, although I’m not sure I’d call all these ideas “easy.” Certainly, they’re not without some work.
My favorite is probably the plank headboard above.
It’s not so much a headboard as it is a wooden wall behind the bed. I’m not so sure I’d call it cheap or easy. But I love it! Here’s what BHG says about the project:
Distressed barnwood planks run the length of the wall behind this bed. To create the look, measure your wall to determine what length of planks you'll need and how many it will take to cover the wall from top to bottom. Starting at the ceiling, secure the planks using nails at several points along the board, ensuring some of the nails are driven into studs.
Looking for something cheaper and easier? Check out the option at right.
In this case, a piece of fabric – a rug, I think – is hung over a plain metal headboard. It’s the kind of headboard you could find at a yard sale or Goodwill. And you don’t need a rug. Any quilt or remnant piece of fabric would do.
Finally, this DIY headboard made of dresser drawers – yep, look closely – is so creative, pretty and practical.
Here’s how BHG describes the project:
Search salvage shops and secondhand stores for cast-off drawers and old dressers. Plan your layout on the floor, using fillers (such as storage cubes) and leaving spaces where the wall can show through. Once you've perfected your design, screw the pieces together.
So cool.
