One of the most popular home events in Indianapolis is the annual Meridian Kessler Home & Garden Tour, which takes place this weekend.
Visitors can tour seven homes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday – including some that may not be typical for this historic Indy neighborhood.
Take the home of Kathie and Adam Gibson and its stunning, modern interiors.
Originally this Carrollton Avenue home was a ranch built in 1956 in the Forest Hills area. But after the couple purchased it in 2003 – and were unable because of foundation issues to add a second floor – the Gibsons tour down the 1,800-square foot home.
They replaced it with a brand-new, six-bedroom, three-story 6,500-square-foot Cape Code-style home, which is on this year’s tour.
Here’s what else the tour folks say about the house:
Prepping the site for the Gibson’s new home involved a detailed “deconstruction plan” created by Gibson, a kitchen, bath and addition designer.
Unlike demolition, which simply clears a building site in the fastest way possible, deconstruction focuses on environmental sustainability, with the idea to give reusable and finished building materials new life.
The Gibsons’ new home is now green from the ground up, from geo-thermal heating and cooling, to bamboo flooring, to wool carpeting, to a mechanical system that provides a constant source of filtered fresh air.
The interior of the home projects a modern, upscale feel.
Every room of the house, including interior rooms, provides an infusion of natural sunlight.
On the main level, the kitchen includes an eat-in bar and island, and overlooks a beautifully landscaped backyard that’s complemented by a truly inspired outdoor deck and porch containing skylights.
