Merry Christmas!
As we celebrate one of my favorite holidays, I need to offer a huge apology to all my regular readers.
For the past month, I have essentially disappeared from the blog world.
There are lots of reasons, most of which are boring. But primarily, I have been working hard on another, unrelated website and just became incredibly distracted.
A few of you know that last summer I switched jobs. My new post – at a small liberal arts college near Indianapolis – has me overseeing student journalists. The kids cover state government and I edit their stories and mentor them, as well as write stories when they are not available.
We have our launched a new website – www.TheStatehouseFile.com – for our operation and I’ve spent weeks now building the site and working out the kinks.
That’s the primary reason that I haven’t been with you.
But I’m coming back…perhaps with fewer posts, something less than daily but more than weekly.
I start today with a Christmas wishes and a photo above of just one of the gorgeous decorations that my Mom created at her home.
It’s a fairly simple project, though Mom acknowledged it was a little harder than she initially anticipated.
She started with a big branch she found in her yard and used spray paint to make it white.
“I could see right away I wasn't going to get the branch entirely white unless I spent a lot more time and money than I wanted to,” Mom told me. “But, it actually resembles a white birch branch and is a little rustic so that's okay with me.”
Next up was the bling.
Mom found some gorgeous red, white and silver ornaments – plus a small cardinal – to decorate the branch.
“I had a hard time deciding how to hang the ornaments and finally found some heavy thread with silver entwined that was fairly easy to work with,” Mom said.
The result is really beautiful. She hung it in the front entryway, where she used some live greenery and twinkle lights to dress the look up.
Thanks for sticking me with through my unplanned break.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year. I promise to be in touch.
