I’m so excited about the expanding trend of using log side tables in all kinds of rooms.
Nate Berkus had one on the set of his TV show recently and I’ve seen Emily from Secrets from a Stylist on HGTV use them twice (see one example at right). Plus, they’re all over the web.
But when I pointed out these beauties to some friends and said I wouldn’t mind putting one in a room vignette I’m helping to create for an art exhibit at the Stutz, they laughed.
“This concept is beyond my reach,” one friend said.
“Sometimes I feel like designers see what they can get away with, like those empty frames on a wall that were popular a while ago,” she said. “Makes me feel like someone started a joke and then it caught on and got out of control while the original designer sits back and laughs.”
I was dumbstruck! How could my friends who I think have such great taste be uninterested in this great idea.
So I thought I’d turn to you to see if I’m off my rocker. What do you think of these log or stump tables? Make sure you vote below.
My favorites are the two bundled tables. The upper left is an Etsy pick from DirtyBils. In the lower right is a fantastic table by Anne Collins for PointClickHome. You can find the full instructions here.
The interesting lower left table – featuring just a slice from a log – comes from Remodelista’s post: Hotels & Lodging: Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. The tables in the middle above were in an older Pottery Barn catalog.
If you’re interested in creating one of these side tables for yourself, check out the Indy Star slide show below, which features a project by my favorite DIYer Shelly Leer at ModHomeEc.
