My husband & I went to one of my favorite used furniture stores last night – Domistyle in the Fountain Square neighborhood of Indy – in hopes of buying a long, low mid-century console I saw there a week ago. We wanted to use it as an entertainment center for the DVR, Wii and other TV-related stuff in our basement.
Of course, I waited too long and it was gone. That didn’t stop us from poking around though and stumbling upon these horrible and yet amazing cane-sided, orange velvet wing-back chairs.
At first, I laughed at them. Then I told my husband that some of the incredibly creative folks I know across the blogosphere would turn these chairs into something spectacular. Then we decided – let’s buy ‘em!
We paid $30 each for these funny vintage chairs and we’re not sure just how we’re going to remake them. I AM sure though that it will involve some help from my friend Shelly Leer of ModHomeEc. I’ve been dying to take one of her upholstering classes and this seems like the perfect opportunity.
For now, the chairs are on our enclosed porch, which is probably where they’re going to stay even after a remake.
They have a fabulous small footprint, and I love their height. And believe it or not, the orange velvet is kind of growing on me!
So what do you think? What would you do with these chairs? Leave them alone or launch a remake?
