I love cafe curtains in kitchens, porches and other rooms where full privacy is not an issue. But I’m not a seamstress, which means I’m always look for a no-sew option.
That leads us to the third tip in our series of 30 posts in 30 days featuring decorating ideas for under $30:
Use tea towels or fabric napkins to make no-sew curtains.
I found the great example at right at SoBro Bungalow, an Indianapolis based blog.
Homeowner Alicia found these pretty dish towels on sale at Anthropologie. She bought four, added curtain clips and now has a great kitchen cafe curtain.
So can you really do this for $30 or less? Absolutely.
With just a little bit of shopping, I was able to put together everything you need for some stylish, colorful cafe curtains for just $24.49 (OK…that doesn’t include taxes).
I found four pretty striped napkins on sale for $2.88 at Pier1, a $10 tension rod from Target, and a great deal on seven curtain clips on sale for $2.97 at West Elm.
Sure, you have to shop around a little and look for some sales to get this project under $30. But I’m quite sure you can do it! Don’t be afraid to look for the perfect towels or napkins at Big Lots, vintage shops or other discounters. I think you’ll be surprised what you can find.
Look at this sunny bathroom that I found at Better Homes and Gardens.
The cafe curtains here are also made from tea towels and hung using clips. They look so pretty and delicate. You couldn’t have purchased a curtain so perfect!
