You may think of hooks as simply a utilitarian tool that adds no real decorative value to your home. After all, most of us use hooks to hang coats or our robe.
But what if we used our hooks for something pretty or trendy or fun? What if we hung up beautiful handbags, a collection of fanciful umbrellas or vintage hats.
Then those same hooks would be both functional and decoration, which is Idea #23 in our series of 30 decor ideas in 30 days for under $30.
I love the way Young House Love used two packs of $9.99 hooks from IKEA to hang up these adorable kids’ clothes in a nursery.
Not only is this a great place to store some bibs and shoes but those beautiful colors look great in the nursery too.
I love the way the antique hooks are used in the very adult bedroom below to hang a couple of pretty vases – but also a piece of a clothing. Beautiful and practical.
Lydia Somerville of MyHomeIdeas.com said she was inspired to hang these hooks by a dressing area in her room at the Watercolor Inn in Florida's Panhandle. She called it “a wonderfully practical arrangement in a beachside hotel room where bathing suits and bathrobes tend to pile up.”
In the bedroom, they make sense too because they’re a great place for yesterday’s outfits and today’s rejected options.
I also like the use of the hooks at right to hold baskets. In this BHG photo, each basket is assigned to a family member, who can use it to hold essentials.
Sometimes, the hooks themselves can be the showpieces.
I saw the pretty mirrored hooks below when I visited the home of Kay & Scott Whitaker in the Meridian Kessler neighborhood of Indianapolis last year.
I can’t remember where she bought them (TJMaxx, maybe?) but I remember that she bought a bunch because they were such a bargain!
Her find inspired me to look for some great, under $30 hooks for you to try as well.
