When readers of The Design File voted earlier this year to make the bedroom shown below the inspiration for our next Design Translation, many seemed to like everything about it but the rug. So this week's pick should be interesting.
I've got five rug options below, which range in price from $280 to $698. The inspiration room is shown in the top middle.
You'll get all the details about these rugs below.
But first, check out what readers already have picked. At right, you can that we've chosen the Kristin Bed from Overstock for $199 and the American Living Savannah Quilt with shams and throw pillows from JCPenney for $274.
Click the collage at right for a better look.
That leaves us with $2,277 to spend from our $2,750 budget. That seems like a lot. But we still have to purchase the dresser, chair, ottoman, cabinet, lamps, wall art -- and of course the rug!
So back to the rug... You'll vote for your favorite in the poll below. Here are the details:
1. The Mohawk Home Prismatic Rug in brick red is 96x132 inches and costs $499 from Target. I was really pleased to find this rug, which I think is a nice option. It is a great color and has a pattern that reminds me of the inspiration room but seems a little more updated.
2. This 8x10-foot Ankara Patchwork Dhurrie Rug is $499 from Pottery Barn. It's my wild card choice here. I know that it goes in a completely different direction from our inspiration room. But personally, I really like it. The colors are perfect. And so I decided to include it here.
3. The 7x9-foot Avalon Poppy Red Braided Rug from CSNRugs is $698. I think it's a great fit for the room. It's the right color, the right feel and I love braided rugs, even though they don't fit anywhere in my home. This one is expensive though. It's our highest price option. But of course, the rug is pretty darn important!
4. This Chindi Striped Jute Rug is 8x10-feet and sold at Pottery Barn for $399. I like that this rug has a strong pattern -- although it's not nearly as busy as the one in the inspiration room. The color seem pretty similar to the ones in the inspiration rug, but I worry that the jute color might be a little too dark and could clash with the creamier yellows in the room.
5. I created this 8x10-foot, $280 checkerboard rug using the design-your-own feature at Flor. I just couldn't find any rug options with a checkerboard that I really liked. But I thought it was important to include just one so this is what I came up with. The price is fantastic, although I think it might have the same color issues.
So what do you think?
It's time for you to vote. Pick the rug you think is best for our room. Remember, we're not after a replica. We're after the rug that works best with our other choices. And of course...keep the budget in mind!
You can vote through 5 p.m. Sunday.
