I love beautiful wood furniture -- especially cherry, walnut and maple pieces with clear finishes that let the natural grain be the star. It's the reason I love Room & Board and why I'm so lucky to be married to a guy who is a hobby woodworker.
It's also why I chose Steckmest Furniture to be this week's Etsy pick. Etsy is an online marketplace for all things handmade and it's a great place to find beautiful things, like the furnishings made by craftsman Ed Steckmest.
His Etsy shop includes traditional pieces like the Cashmere rocking machine for $1,800 at right and more modern furniture like the amazing bar stool at left, which costs $600.
"I use select quality wood and take great care in matching for both grain pattern and color using joinery best suited for its application, always thinking in terms of longevity rather than expedience," Ed says on the site.
Check out that gorgeous Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired chair in the lower right of the collage. The amazing, contemporary piece is $750.
Ed will make custom furniture if you let him know just what you're looking for.
He also makes wooden accessories, including candle holders and kitchen items like cutting boards. You can see both in the collage above. The piece at top right is made from cherry and maple and sells for $55.
You also see one of Ed's Lazy Susans at right. It's made of walnut with an inlay accent strip of Maple, Cherry and Bubinga. It's $95.
The candle holders shown at the lower left of the collage are made from a Black Walnut tree that died in Ed's yard. Each costs $16.
Make sure you check out what else Ed has to offer at his Etsy site and don't be afraid to ask him to make something special for you!
