Last week, readers of The Design File picked the iron bed from Overstock as the first piece of furniture in our budget translation of an HGTV Dream Home guest room.
It's a great choice for our budget and a nice likeness for the one in our Americana guest room (shown at right). Now it's time to pick some bedding to go on it!
As always, I've got five options for you to consider. None are replicas of the inspiration room. That's OK because we're simply trying to re-create the feel of the room -- on a $2,750 budget. Here are your choices:
Remember, our budget is $2,750 and we already spent $199 on the bed (shown at right).
Plus, we'll have lots more decisions to make after this one. We have to pick a dresser, cabinet, rug, chair, ottoman, lamps and accessories. So choose wisely!
You'll vote for the bed you like best with the poll below. But I'd also love for you to explain your choice in the comments to give everybody an idea what you're thinking.
Here are your options with details and pricing (click any of the photos for a better look):
1. The American Living Savannah Quilt from JCPenney (shown at right) is $274 for the quilt, two shams and three throw pillows. What a great price! I think this color would work pretty well in the room and the quilt is the right style. But there's no little pop of color like in the inspiration room.
2. The Sky Collection Elm Duvet Set from Target (shown at left) is $774 for the duvet, two euro shams and three throw pillows. This set is very pretty and I think the tree theme works OK with the Americana idea. But I'm not sure about the coloring.
3. The Branches Black Comforter Set from Overstock (shown at right) is a mere $74 but we only get a comforter and two shams. I included this black option because there is so much black in the room so I thought it would be an interesting option, although it obviously bears no real relation to the inspiration bedding.
4. The Coby Direct Oslo Matelasse Bedspread (shown at left) is $210 from Macys for the spread and two shams. It's by far the simplest of the options. But I like the idea of the white with the room's white dresser, bright rug and black bed.
5. The Pearl Embroidered Duvet and Hannah Quilt (shown at right) is $435 from Pottery Barn for the duvet, the quilt and two shams. This is one of our most expensive options and definitely the most colorful. It also includes both the duvet and the quilt, which means we could create a look more like the inspiration by folding up the quilt and putting it at the end of the bed. (Yes, I know we're not actually folding anything!)
Remember...we're looking at the bedding in this decision, not the bed! Think about the style of the room, the budget and all the pieces we have left to purchase.
Now it's time to vote! Pick your favorite in the poll below and tell us why in the comments.
