I owe this week's Etsy pick to my favorite Moderncat blog which featured this fantastic little shop in a great giveaway last month (sorry...the giveaway is already closed).
Salty and Sweet sells mobiles - not the kind you hang over a crib but fun and funky styles that are meant simply to add a little humor to a room.
One of my favorites is called Derby Grrrls (shown at right), which features five skaters in various stages of motion. It costs $30 and comes fully assembled.
Shop owner Andrea is "an industrial designer with a crafter's heart who needs a good excuse to go play with the laser cutter," according to her Etsy profile.
The figures for her mobiles are laser cut from thin solid black mat board and joined with black wire. These mobiles are extremely lightweight and stay in motion with even the slightest breeze.When I last checked, Andrea had more than two dozen styles for sale, including these:
At left is the 401 aOK mobile, which is meant to portray the bull and bear markets duking it out right before your eyes.
In the middle is the misStep mobile, which was inspired by the progression of a fall. The mobile will be "forever tumbling, tumbling, tumbling in space," Andrea writes. "The controlled sense of chaos and the ever-present sense of impending doom will ensure that the misStep Mobile will always catch your eye."
Finally, at right, is the mobile that caught Moderncat's eye. The Here Kitty Kitty mobile is "perfect for those who love those sassy felines or perhaps for the individual who is down from nine lives to a mere five."
