So here's the challenge: Find neutral baby bedding that is modern enough to please some hip parents, fun and colorful enough to stimulate the senses of a little one, and is just traditional enough to make the grandparents happy.
That's the dilemma facing my good friend Dee and so this post (and maybe a few others planned for the coming weeks) is dedicated to her.
Dee and Jason are expecting their first baby and are waiting to find out if it's a boy or girl. Under pressure from friends and family eager to start the buying process, the couple is starting to explore their nursery options.
Dee's first choice -- a black and white modern pattern -- was rejected as too boring for baby. But Dee is not much interested in the overly busy character patterns you see just about everywhere. Finally, Dee's search has made her a little weary of the green and brown color scheme that dominates many of the choices in the neutral bedding category (although I'm not above suggesting some anyway).
So here are eight modern, neutral bedding options that I think Dee & Jason, as well as other expectant parents out there, could consider:
2. It's hard not to like most of the products created by DwellStudio and the Robin Motif Crib Bedding Collection, available at AllModernBaby, is no exception. This beautiful green and blue bedding (lower right in the collage above) is perfect for a boy or a girl. A crib set is $290 and the matching Boudoir Pillow (shown at left) is $34.
3. The Sweet Potato Domain Crib Bedding Collection (at right) by Glenna Jean is another mod option that combines a fun geometric pattern with great neutral colors. Available at AllModernBaby, the bedding is on sale for $199.99. There's also a Domain Musical Mobile on sale for $40.
4. The Wetlands Organic Crib Bedding by Amenity Nursery is a modern way to bring an animal print into the baby's room. This bedding (shown in the lower left of the collage above) is available from DesignPublic for $40-$336. These canvas prints (shown at left) are also available.
5. I only recently discovered the Banana Fish company which makes really stunning baby bedding. One of my favorites is the Cameron 4-Piece Baby Bedding Set (shown at right), which features a pretty green and gray (not brown) color palette. See the Banana Fish site for retailer information.
6. The On the Dot Crib Bedding (in the upper right of the collage) from Land of Nod is one of my favorite choices here. The colors are vibrant but the design remains understated and it would go with just about anything. The four-piece set is $220.
7. Here's another Banana Fish offering (yep, I couldn't resist including two). The Crayon 4-Piece Baby Bedding Set is available from Amazon, for $225. It's shown at left. There's also a mobile, which is shown in the top middle of the collage above.
8. The Dwell Studio Circles & Rings bedding collection for Target (shown in the upper left of the collage above) is one of those green and brown options but I still think it's pretty handsome. It's also incredibly affordable. The pieces are on sale at Target for $10.99-34.99.
So what do you think? Does one of these strike you as a good choice for Dee & Jay? Or do you have other ideas? Let us know in the comments below and we'll keep you up to date with the progress of their nursery.
