I received the preview this week of Country Living magazine's August issue and love that it's offering tips on arranging flowers like a pro as well as some great DIY ideas. The issue is on news stands Tuesday.
Flower arranging
"Ten unbelievably clever ways to help feed, arrange, and display floral décor all around your home," the preview said. Here are three ideas the editors shared:
- Pass The PAM – The
good old cooking spray will seal the pores of a flower and prevent it from
drying out, helping tropical flowers last longer – and it makes them shine!
- Transform Tulips – To make these common bulbs more exotic just put your thumb under each petal and fold back with your forefinger. (See before and after at right. Photo courtesy of Country Living.)
- Just Add Bleach! – A few drops of Clorox in water instead of expensive flower food can save you some money this summer! The bleach prevents bacteria – which is the main purpose of most additives.
Also in the issue:
A clever way to jazz up a lampshade, add personality to bulletin boards and turn a wood door into a headboard. (See photo at right. Courtesy of Country Living.)
- Making Over Your Living Room for Less.
- Thanks to smart, wallet-friendly fixes, an outdated living room becomes a cheerful oasis.
- The Ultimate Kitchen Garden: With an impressive master plan, Pamela Page transformed a rocky Connecticut lot into an abundant organic kitchen garden. How to plan your own (big or small).
