Today we'll be looking at sofas to replace the unusual one in the our inspiration room by New York-based designer Brendan Kwinter-Schwartz of Kwinter & Co. It was easy to find some sofas with a similar color but not so easy to find something with the same proportions and details.
As you start mulling the choices, though, here's a reminder: Earlier this week, you chose a pair of cow-hide chairs for the room which
cost $650 and last week a bench for $60. That means we have $2,290 left from our $3,000 budget to decorate the rest of the room.
You can find all the details about the sofas - including the prices - later on in the post. And you'll vote by posting a comment below with the sofa of your choice. But there are a few things to go over first.
We started with a $3,000 budget to remake the room, which is shown at right, with more affordable products. Click the photo if you need a bigger view.
We'll only be doing the rug and everything that sits on it. So in addition to the chairs and bench (replacing the ottomans) you've already picked, we'll need tables, lamps and the rug. So choose wisely. Below the sofa descriptions you'll find more information about the price ranges for the other items.
The idea here is NOT to make an exact copy of the room. It's to create a similar feel, to capture the spirit and style of the space. Also, if we run out of money in our budget before the last piece is chosen, I'll give you a chance to change one of the decisions. And if there's money leftover in the budget, we'll use it to pick some accessories.
So here are your sofa options:
1. Rowe Furniture's Berkeley Microfiber Sofa from CSN Sofas.
I like the color of this sofa and that the arms have a little curve on
the side. Plus, the accompanying pillows remind me of the square detail
on the back of the inspiration sofa. It's also a great price - $785,
the cheapest of the bunch.
2. The Hudson sofa from Kittles. The sofa is a nice color and has the
right shaped arms, but it's a little plain to substitute for our
stylish inspiration piece. Still, the fabric looks pretty good and
covers the sofa's legs like it does in the inspiration. It's $1,100.
3. IKEA STOCKHOLM
3-1/2 seat sofa from IKEA.
This sofa is not the right shape or even color but it is a 3-1/2
seater, compared to the inspiration room's four seater. And it's sleek,
like the inspiration piece. It's $1,190.
4. Mitchell 2-piece Chocolate Sofa from Overstock.
This is the most expensive option but it's also, I think, one of the
best. The color is good and the overall shape and scale is fantastic.
But it's a little more modern while the inspiration sofa is classic.
These arms are squared and the inspiration sofa's arms curve to the
inside, but this one has pillows that help create the same feel. It's
$1,912.
5. Eco-Friendly Montego Cremini Pennyback Sofa from Overstock. This is a bit of a wild card choice because its style is so distinctly mid-century modern. But I picked it because I just really like this sofa. Also, the inspiration sofa has that square back inset detail on it, something I haven't been able to find on any other couch and this sofa's back cushions and tufting gave it its own special details. Plus, it's affordable at $936.
As you consider your choice, remember that we've already spent $710 from our $3,000 budget on the bench and side chairs (see both below at right). Below, you'll also see the price ranges for the upcoming choices.
