As suggested by a Moderncat expert!
I am thrilled today that our recommendations for chic and essential cat products comes from Kate Benjamin at Moderncat blog, a site I read every day. (You can view suggestions for stylish dog products at yesterday's post.)
Kate, whose blog is the go-to spot for all modern cat owners, has provided her 10 favorite cat products to The Design File for today's post.
Here's what Kate recommends - with her own descriptions and photos provided by each of the companies:
Sweet Lounge from Marmalade Pet Care
The Marmalade Sweet Lounge is made from sturdy renewable and recyclable corrugated cardboard. It is both a beautiful sculpture and a functional piece of cat furniture, perfect for scratching or lazy lounging. We have one in the living room and there is almost always someone on it.
Moderncritter Scratcher
This sleek scratcher at right from Moderncritter is more than just a cat scratcher; it’s a truly beautiful piece of high quality furniture. The bent plywood is elegant and sturdy and the detachable carpet tiles can be changed to match any décor. Ours hangs right next to the sofa, creating a perfect lounge spot at just the right height.
Modern Cat Designs Tall Condo
The tall cat condo from Modern Cat Designs is a durable and elegant addition to any modern interior with cats. This two-story structure provides lounging spots and scratching surfaces and a great place to jump and play. Ours gets a ton of use out on the catio, where the condo provides a launching pad for reaching the cat climbing shelves.
The Sleepypod is unlike any other pet carrier. It functions as both a bed and a carrier, allowing kitty to lounge comfortably while at home, then, by simply adding the mesh top, it converts to a safe and comfortable carrier. The Sleepypod is both functional and stylish. We always get compliments on our Sleepypod when we go to the vet. See at right as a kitty bed with the top zipped off. It's shown above in travel mode.
Hepper Pod Bed
Hepper Home makes a number of beautiful modern cat beds, and our favorite is the Pod bed. The elevated hideaway creates a cozy cocoon for a peaceful nap. Two of my smaller cats Dee and Simba take turns in our Pod bed. Every night like clockwork, Dee comes racing into the living room and hops right into her Pod. Time for bed!
Litter-Robot
The Litter-Robot may look like a spaceship, but it’s really an automatic litter box unlike any other. After kitty leaves the box, the large dome rotates automatically dropping solids into the bin below. Simply empty the drawer when it gets full. My crew loves it because they always have a clean litter box.
This little tool (shown in the collage above) will honestly change your life. The FURminator is not like other grooming tools, it removes the loose, dead undercoat, dramatically reducing shedding and furballs (see all the fur that came out of one cat at left). Mackenzie my Maine Coon loves to be FURminated! And the new double-edge FURminator works twice as fast, perfect for really thick coats. It’s a lifesaver!
Canadian design studio Vurv makes one of the most beautiful and functional modern wall-mounted feeders I’ve seen. The Maow wall-mounted feeder holds two stainless steel bowls and comes in a variety of finishes including several real wood veneers. The feeder attaches easily to the wall at just the right height. Using a raised feeder can help kitty’s digestion. For larger feline families, the Maow Deluxe feeder includes two regular sized bowls plus a third larger bowl for water.
I have always loved the Rondo cat bed/climber/scratcher from German company Cat-Interiors. Rondo is an elegant form that mounts on the wall or on a sturdy modern stand. Both options provide an elevated spot for kitty to watch her surroundings or take a nap. Rondo is available in leather, felt, or wicker and the interior pad comes in a variety of mod colors. This is one thing that I don’t have, but I have always wanted.
Another new item that I absolutely love is the Curve bed from designer Akemi Tanaka. This simple bent plywood shelf mounts on the wall to create a graceful resting spot for kitty. Choose from several mod fabric covers for the detachable pillow. Every moderncat needs one (or two) of these!
