I'm an avid IKEA shopper but I've never purchased a sofa there. So maybe that's why I'm only now learning about a fantastic company named Bemz, a Swedish firm that makes slipcovers specifically for IKEA sofas and chairs.
These are not your typical, frumpy slipcovers. These are sleek and modern and available for IKEA's most popular models, including some that are discontinued. Prices start at $45 and delivery can take four weeks.
Just yesterday, Bemz launched slipcovers featuring fabrics from Marimekko, one of the world's most acclaimed print design houses (see right).
"Marimekko was our first choice when we looked to broaden our range of authentic designer fabrics, and we are delighted to be working with this iconic Finnish design brand," said Lesley Pennington, founder of Bemz.com. "The Bemz Marimekko collection will be available for a total of more than 70 IKEA sofa and chair models, which means millions of people worldwide can easily add the best of Finnish style to their living room, bedroom and office."
Earlier this spring, Bemz launched another line called "Simple Life" (see photo below). Bemz describes the collection as "inspired by the natural colors of stark, windswept beaches of Gotland, an island in the middle of the Baltic Sea: stone white, sand beige, and the grey-white foam of the incoming waves." These colors have been interpreted by Bemz into natural textiles with neutral, calming tones such as Ash Brown, Cloud Grey, and Soft White.
All the fabrics are available as covers for more than 60 different IKEA sofa and chair models, and for cushions that match.
Bemz also announced this spring that it is covering several additional IKEA models. The entire range of Bemz fabrics is now available for IKEA Karlstad Corner module, the IKEA Falsterbo family, and the IKEA Stockholm chair.
This month, Bemz started offering organic cotton that are environment-friendly and machine-washable. Bemz organic cotton can be ordered in an unbleached beige tone for all IKEA models the company supports.
