You won't find a home with views like this in Indianapolis, but I still wanted to post this video that shows a modern renovation of a home in Miami.
This from a KMP press release about the design:
FORMA Design created this space, making extensive use of KMP furnishings in a renovated Zen-inspired South Beach retreat that has stunning views of the
Miami skyline.
The Historic Landmarks Foundation is offering a
peek into five mid-century modern homes in West Lafayette as part of
its celebration of National Historic Preservation Month in May.
"Boxy modernist houses and low-slung ranch homes were the
height of hip when they were built, and they still have a cool factor
today," says a release about the event. "They’ve been around long
enough that some qualify as historic structures
– a point that sparks debate and causes us to view them in a new light."
Back
to the Future: A Mid-Century Modern Home Tour will be held Saturday, May 30
from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in West Lafayette. It features five houses built between 1955 and 1964.
"In ’50s and ’60s America, many people considered
Victorian architecture dated and ugly. As a result, countless architectural
gems were lost to the wrecking ball," a release from the landmarks foundation said.
Calico Corners recently released some great tips to give your home an updated look.
"Small projects can have a large impact on
the look of a room," said Jan Jessup, Calico Corners' director of communications. "Remember: Great decorating begins with great fabrics
and our fabrics have never been fresher, with new graphic prints,
dramatic ikat designs, an amazing collection of African-inspired animal
skin patterns, Kashmiri crewels and our Annie Selke Home collection,
exclusive to Calico. Walking into the store is like a little trip
around the world!"
The company, which has a store in Castleton, provided these ideas:
Inhabit - an Indianapolis-based on-line only store - has more than 100 of their gorgeous items on sale for 25 percent to 75 percent off.
But you'd better act quick. Because these are overstocks, samples, discontinued items and seconds, quantities are limited.
Check out the Bloom in Sunshine pillow, shown at left. It's 18-inches square and just $20 right now.
Or, shop for some of Inhabit's fantastic Wall Flats (I have a post coming up about them in a couple weeks). Seconds of the Braille Wall Flat, shown at right in detail, are just $4.50 per 18-inch square tile. They have small dings in the corners.
Diane over at Realty Insights is giving away a lamp to a lucky reader of her Indianapolis-based blog, which focuses on the area real estate market and provides tips for getting your home ready to sell, finding the best
home deals, and discovering products for your abode.
You get to pick one of three lamps (one of your choices is Fangio Lighting's Martin Richard Table Lamp in Gold Coast at left). And you enter just by commenting on her post and leaving your name and email address.
If you enter, make sure you tell Diane in your comment that you found the link here. Good luck!
Metropolitan Home sent us a sneak peak of its annual Design 100 issue, full of the editor's choices for the "best people, places and things from the world of design."
The full June issue will be available next week, but the magazine gave us a list of some of the items that will be featured.
Addendum Gallery, which has some not-to-be-missed hand-crafted art pieces, is making a move from the Carmel Arts and Design District to a new shop in Broad Ripple that offers more space and less construction nearby. You can check out the gallery's web site at www.addendumgallery.com.
Although there will obviously be some changes when the store reopens, I wanted to share a few of my finds from the last time I visited in Carmel.
In addition to the video below, The Star also has a story and gallery of photos of the home, a fundraiser for the St. Margaret's Guild. There are lots of chances to see the home in person. See our calendar on the right side of the blog or click here for more details.
Pottery Barn is hosting a class called the Art of Botanical Arranging tomorrow and again on May 3.
"Learn how to artfully arrange botanicals and customize your very own display for the perfect Mother's Day gift," the class description says. "Bring your sister, your mother or your friend and learn new ideas in this fun, interactive class."
Call the store -- (317) 815-3740 -- for more details, times and to register. Participants will receive 10 percent off merchandise featured in the class.
